Citizens Visitation Program
Approved and trained volunteers are encouraged to participate in scheduled visits. If you are interested in volunteering for John Howard Association, please review volunteer information and complete the application process. Upcoming volunteer training sessions are listed below.
The following schedule lists visits to IDOC and CCDOC correctional facilities during the next several months. To participate in any of these visits, approved volunteers should complete the information below as soon as possible.

Visits to IDOC facilities normally occupy a full day, including travel time.

Visits to downstate youth and adult facilities may involve overnight travel (see visits with asterisks (*) below).

Visits to one division of CCDOC are normally limited to 3-4 hours.

Unless otherwise specified, visits to CCDOC facilities begin at 9:30 a.m. at the jail (2700 South California Ave., Division V entrance). Afternoon visits begin at 1:30 p.m.

Below is a calendar of our scheduled visits to Illinois prisons and youth centers and the Cook County Jail. For a printable copy of the prison visits, please click here.
Those interested in visiting are urged to participate. To allow us to plan for these visits, please sign up for the visits you'd like to go on and email us the form. You may also download the visit schedule, check of the visits you'd like to attend and mail it to us at 300 W. Adams, Suite 423, Chicago, IL 60606. If you have questions, please call or email us.
Unless otherwise specified, morning visits to the Cook County Jail facilities start at 9:30 a.m at the jail, and afternoon visits start at 1:30 pm and end at approximately 4:30 p.m. Visits to the Illinois Department of Corrections and the Illinois Department of Juvenile Justice (Illinois Youth Centers) generally begin at 10:00 a.m., unless otherwise specified. Please note that the visits to Menard and Centralia Correctional Centers entail overnight travel.
